Lake Nakuru National Park Day Tour
LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK DAY TOUR
This park is famed as the birdwatchers’ paradise, and indeed was the first national park in Africa to be set up with an avian conservation objective. Up to a million flamingos have been recorded in this park depending on their regional migration. Most of these are Lesser Flamingos with Greater Flamingos making a smaller population. Sometimes the flamingos will move to other lakes across the Rift Valley and cannot be expected in large numbers all year. Our guide will help you enjoy these beautiful birds at designated sites within the park.
Game drives will include some of the best savannah stretches across Lake Nakuru National Park, where you will see many antelopes such as Common Impala and Defassa Waterbuck. You will also sample some woodlands around the lake for secretive mammals such as the tiny Naivasha Dik dik. On the wetland fringes and lakeshores, our guide will help you scan for Nile Hippos and African Buffaloes grazing along the shorelines.
Lake Nakuru National Park is also a rhino sanctuary, meaning that it hosts a breeding population of both Black Rhinos and White Rhinos. You will spend some good time searching for these beautiful beasts and with luck you may even find several individuals.
The big cats here are also well represented with African Lions being the more likely members. Leopards also love to emerge from the Yellow Fever Forests, where you may also be lucky to find a Serval Cat emerging into the grasslands to hunt, after a restful hot day. Other carnivores often seen here include Silver-backed Jackals, Spotted Hyenas, and if you are lucky you may spot the Striped Hyena and Bat-eared Fox.
This park is one of the premium parks in Kenya, together with the incredible Amboseli National Park. Each trip to Lake Nakuru National Park is usually unique, but each visit is always enjoyable.
