The Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari can be combined with our Masai Mara Wildlife Safari.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL AND POSSIBLE WALK AT UGANDA WILDLIFE EDUCATION CENTRE (UWEC) – LAKE VICTORIA

You will arrive via Entebbe, where our guide will be ready to receive you. You will then transfer to your hotel, located nearby. Entebbe is the ideal place to start our Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari, because of the main airport located here.

If time allows, and depending on how tired you are from the flights, you may choose to enjoy a short walk at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre. Here we shall likely be entertained by the local Vervet Monkeys. We shall then walk with a local guide learning about different wildlife species hosted at the centre, including Leopard, Cheetah, African Buffalo, African Elephant, White Rhino, African Lion, Eastern Chimpanzee, the pre-historic Shoebill and assorted snakes. We can also expect some nice birds species here such as Great Blue Turaco, African Grey Parrot and Black-and-white-casqued Hornbill.

Otherwise we can relax at our lodge and prepare for the Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari.

DAY 2, 3 AND 4: MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK; VIA ZIWA RHINO SANCTUARY

Our Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari will kick off with great energy. We shall drive North-West to the amazing Murchison Falls National Park.

On the way, we shall pass by the exciting Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary; which is the only conservation area within Uganda where wild rhinos roam free. We shall enjoy photographing the Southern White Rhinos as we learn their Biology with our guide. This rhino experience is a great activity during our Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari.

Soon, we shall arrive at Murchison Falls National Park. We shall enjoy game drives in this beautiful park; which is the largest park in the entire Uganda. We shall keep an eye for mammals such as Patas Monkey, Bunyoro Rabbit, African Lion, Leopard, Lelwel’s Hartebeest, Nile Hippo, Uganda Kob, Rothschild’s Giraffe and African Elephant. We hope to enjoy great birding from this part of Uganda with species such as Shoebill and Abyssinian Ground-Hornbill.

On one afternoon, we shall enjoy a boat cruise across the Victoria-Albert Nile, where several mammals and waterbirds will be present. This boat cruise is a great part of our lovely Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari.

DAY 5: TO KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK – FOOTHILLS OF MT. RWENZORI

On this day, we shall exit Murchison Falls National Park, as we enjoy more wildlife. We shall continue our Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari towards Kibale on a very scenic journey.

The views of Mt. Rwenzori or Mt. Ruwenzori peaks; often called “Mountains of the Moon” are a great scenery on this route. This legendary name started as early explorers were seeking to find the source of River Nile; and today Mt. Rwenzori is the most famous site with that name. An old film (Mountains of the Moon) documents some of these adventures. The Rwenzori views are a popular sight on our Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari.

We shall arrive at our lodge in the afternoon, where we shall enjoy the local weather and beautiful sounds of birds and insects.

Night in Kibale.
DAY 6: CHIMPANZEE TREKKING IN KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK; AND BIGODI WETLAND WALK

Departing our lodge early, we shall head to Kibale Forest, where the Chimpanzee trek will take place today. On the drive, we may encounter several primate species such as Olive Baboons and Red-tailed Monkeys; who often love to feed along the roadsides.

We shall then continue our Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari to the edge of Kibale Forest, at the beautiful Bigodi Swamp. Here, we shall enjoy a nature walk guided by a local safari guide from the community. We shall also take some time to learn about the community conservation efforts at the local visitor centre. The Bigodi Wetland is a swamp surrounded by tall trees and inhabited by many different primate species. The common primates here include Uganda Grey-cheeked Mangabey, L’Hoest’s Monkey, Western Guereza Colobus Monkey, Uganda Red Colobus Monkey, Red-tailed Monkey and Olive Baboon.

In the afternoon, we shall head to the park headquarters where our Chimpanzee trek will commence. This is a major highlight during our Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari. We shall all meet for a briefing from the local rangers at the visitors centre. We shall then be assigned our guides and head into the forest using our vehicle. On arrival, we shall embark on a nice trek deeper into the forest where our primate friends await- the Eastern Chimpanzees. We shall spend time enjoying these beautiful animals as we learn more about their Biology from our very experienced guides.

We shall spend the night in Kibale.
DAY 7 AND 8: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

After a refreshing breakfast at our lodge, we shall leave Kibale Forest National Park behind and drive farther South. We shall drive through Uganda’s countryside as we enjoy the local farms, such as cotton plantations.

Later, we shall arrive at Queen Elizabeth National Park, where more wildlife species await us. Mammals to expect here include Uganda Kob, Common Warthog, Giant Forest Hog, Nile Hippo, Lake Chad Buffalo, African Elephant, Bushbuck, African Lion, Leopard and Spotted Hyena. We may also find the local Nile Crocodiles.

On one afternoon, we shall enjoy a boat cruise along the famous Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. Lake Edward is part of the Western or Albertine Rift Valley system. This cruise is a key highlight on our Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari. Here many mammals and waterbirds will be present and we shall take time to enjoy them. Birds along the water edges include African Fish Eagles and African Skimmers.

DAY 9: ISHASHA TO BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST NATIONAL PARK

We shall start the day early and head towards the Ishasha region in Southern Queen Elizabeth National Park. This area is famous for the local tree-climbing Lions. We may be lucky to find these beautiful cats among an array of other big game and birds.

Later, we shall continue our Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari; driving along the very scenic South-Western Uganda. We shall arrive at our lodge in the afternoon, where we shall enjoy the local weather and beautiful sounds of birds and insects.

DAY 10: GORILLA TREKKING IN BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST NATIONAL PARK

Departing our lodge with packed lunch, we shall head to Bwindi Forest, where the gorilla trek will take place. We shall all meet for a briefing from the local rangers early in the morning. This day is definitely among the most interesting sections of our Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari.

We shall then venture into the forest following the nice trails through the dense forest. Soon enough, we shall meet our “hosts” for the day- the majestic Mountain Gorillas. Sometimes the hike takes longer depending on the local movements of these great apes; who live a very natural lifestyle in this great forest. We shall spend time enjoying these great apes and making the best photos. Most gorilla families are well composed of a dominant male- the Silverback, several females and young. Our trek may also produce more primates, including the amazing L’ Hoest Monkey.

We shall then hike back to our starting point and return to our lodge for a relaxed afternoon.

There are several optional afternoon activities around Bwindi that we can take part in before returning to our lodge. These include a visit to the Batwa Community Cultural Site, Local Village Tour and the Ride 4 a Woman Centre.

We shall spend the night in Bwindi.
DAY 11: LAKE BUNYONYI

Arguably one of the most beautiful lakes in Africa, Lake Bunyonyi is always popular on all our Best of Uganda Wildlife Safaris. Here we shall enjoy strolling around the lake’s jagged shores as well as a restful time at the local resort. We shall also enjoy a boat ride around sunset; as we explore the beautiful islands on the lake.

Lake Bunyonyi is also famous for being Africa’s second-deepest lake. The landscapes around the lake are breathtaking and will always leave a magical impression on each trip. But Lake Bunyonyi is also a birding paradise with many waterbirds here, such as Pied Kingfishers, the rare Victoria (Entebbe) Masked Weaver and Papyrus Yellow Warbler.

DAY 12 AND 13: LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK

We shall then head to the lovely Lake Mburo National Park. We shall cruise through the vast farmlands and bushes that pattern our drive from Bwindi. We may be lucky to come across the famous Ankole cattle, with their very evident and long horns. These cows are always a popular sighting on our Best of Uganda Wildlife Safaris.

We shall enjoy game drives around Lake Mburo National Park, as we score different wildlife species. Mammals will be abundant including Burchellʼs Zebra, Oribi, Cape Buffalo, Uganda Topi, Dwarf Mongoose, Nile Hippo, Roan Antelope, Sitatunga, Cape Eland, Vervet (Tantalus) Monkey, Olive Baboon and Common Impala. Expected birds species here include African Finfoot and Red-headed Lovebird.

We shall also enjoy one scenic boat ride on Lake Mburo, where great mammals and birds will be seen.
