JOURNEY TO KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK, UGANDA

Trip duration

5 days/ 4 nights

The Kidepo Valley National Park Safari can be combined with our Best of Uganda Wildlife Safari. Many groups often choose to have the Kidepo Valley National Park as an extension to their other safaris; and we are always happy to help you combine these adventures.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL AND POSSIBLE WALK AT UGANDA WILDLIFE EDUCATION CENTRE (UWEC)

You will arrive via Entebbe, where our guide will be ready to receive you. You will then transfer to your hotel, located nearby. Entebbe is a warm town in Eastern Uganda, located along the shores of Lake Victoria- Africa’s largest freshwater lake and second largest globally.

If time allows, and depending on how tired you are from the flights, you may choose to enjoy a short walk at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre. Here we shall likely be entertained by the local Vervet Monkeys. We shall then walk with a local guide learning about different wildlife species hosted at the centre, including Leopard, Cheetah, African Buffalo, African Elephant, White Rhino, African Lion, Eastern Chimpanzee, the pre-historic Shoebill and assorted snakes. We can also expect some nice birds species here such as Great Blue Turaco, African Grey Parrot and Black-and-white-casqued Hornbill.

Night in Entebbe.

DAY 2, 3 AND 4: KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK

After a nice relaxed breakfast, we shall leave for Kidepo Valley National Park, taking a domestic flight from Entebbe. Kidepo Valley National Park is going to be our home for the next few days, and we shall maximise our time there scouting all possible sections of the park.

We shall be hoping to enjoy loads of wildlife over the next days. Kidepo Valley National Park is the wildest wildlife area in Uganda, located at the Northern border with South Sudan and Kenya. The park covers an area of 1,442 square kilometres. The Kidepo Valley is bathed by the Kidepo River which farther connects with the Narus River in the Narus Valley; and drains into the White Nile. The Karamoja region is a true wildlife haven and a hidden safari gem of Africa. We shall also explore areas near Apoka, Lamoj Hills, Namamukweny Valley and Kanangorok Springs.

We shall keep an eye for the local mammals such as Savannah Elephant, Oribi, Cape Buffalo, Rothschildʼs Giraffe, Cheetah, African Lion, Leopard, Bush Pig, Bush Duiker, Common Eland, Striped Hyena, Roan Antelope, Uganda Kob, Patas Monkey and Gunther’s Dik-dik.

Birding will be exciting and we shall scan this vast savannah for species such as Black Crowned Crane, Kori Bustard, Abyssinian Roller and White-crested Turaco.

We shall also be in one of the best cultural areas of Uganda. The local cultural highlights include the Karamojong and Ik tribes.

Nights at Kidepo.

DAY 5: KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK TO ENTEBBE

On this day, we shall enjoy a short game drive at Kidepo Valley National Park in the morning. We shall be keeping an eye for any species we missed earlier as well as scouting any areas within the park that we did not explore, and hopefully we shall add some new animals.

Later, we shall fly South to Entebbe town. We shall then connect with our flights home- marking the end to our lovely Kidepo Valley National Park Safari.
